Dear Friend:
We invite you to take part in an extraordinary opportunity to have an impact not only on the landscape of our city, but on the lives of young boys in our area who wish for nothing more than to simply grow up.
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is the leading genetic killer of young boys worldwide. For the one in every 3,500 boys diagnosed with Duchenne, their muscle cells will die and not regenerate; most will be in a wheelchair by the age of 12 and won’t live to graduate or even attend college. While there is no cure…there is hope. The science is moving forward and promising research is being conducted that could save our boys. We are in a race to fund the most viable projects today and give our boys a chance for life tomorrow.
That is why CureDuchenne is proud to announce the third-annual Dealing for Duchenne Casino Night at the Petersen Automotive Museum on Saturday, June 12, 2010. We’re excited to have actors Anne Heche and James Tupper as our co-hosts for this fun-filled event, which will include a celebrity Texas Hold-em tournament, craps and black jack tables, live music, a gourmet dinner by Wolfgang Puck Catering and much more.
The evening will also include a fabulous live and silent auction – and this is where we need your help! We are hoping we can count on your support once again to donate items for our live and silent auctions. Donations can range from merchandise and gift certificates to unique experiences. No donation is too small!
Last year’s event drew 400 attendees and raised more than $200,000 for the brand new Center for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at UCLA, which is scheduled to open later this year. The Center’s mission will be two-fold: to provide state-of-the-art care that can prolong and enhance our boys’ young lives, and to conduct clinical trials and other promising research for a cure that could save this generation of Duchenne boys. As the first clinic of its kind in the Western United States, the Center for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at UCLA will be a beacon, not only for the hundreds of families in our immediate area who will benefit, but for families across the West coast and beyond who may not otherwise have access to the best possible treatment for their children.
Please complete the enclosed auction donation form and fax it back to us. Every penny raised at the event will go directly to the new Center for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at UCLA. With your help, someday soon we will be able to say that together we helped cure Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
With our sincere thanks,
Amy & Chris Martin, CureDuchenne Parents
Anne Heche & James Tupper, Dealing for Duchenne Co-Hosts
