Dear Esteemed Member of our Community:

Will Martin, Amy Martin, James Tupper, Homer Heche, Anne Heche, Chris Martin
We invite you to take part in an extraordinary opportunity to have an impact not only on the landscape of our city, but on the lives of young boys in our area who wish for nothing more than to simply grow up.
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is the leading genetic killer of young boys, affecting one in every 3,500 boys worldwide. It is a devastating disease in which the muscle cells die and do not regenerate; most boys with Duchenne are in a wheelchair by the age of 12 and will not live to graduate or even attend college. For these boys and their families, it is a heartbreaking diagnosis that is made all the more difficult by the fact that there is currently no clinic in the Western United States that specializes in Duchenne. The closest clinic is located in Cincinnati, thousands of miles from Los Angeles and out of reach for most local Duchenne families.
But that is about to change. CureDuchenne, the only non-profit organization in Southern California dedicated to finding a cure for Duchenne, has teamed up with researchers at the prestigious UCLA Medical Center to launch the brand new Center for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at UCLA. The Center’s mission will be two-fold: to provide state-of-the-art care that can prolong and enhance our boys’ young lives, and to conduct clinical trials and other promising research for a cure that could save this generation of Duchenne boys. The Center will be a beacon, not only for the hundreds of families in our immediate area who will benefit, but for families across the West coast and beyond who may not otherwise have access to the best possible treatment for their children.
As one of its primary sponsors, CureDuchenne has been in the forefront of making the Center for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at UCLA a reality. To this end, CureDuchenne is proud to announce the third annual Dealing for Duchenne Casino Night at the Petersen Automotive Museum on Saturday, June 12, 2010. We’re excited to have actors Anne Heche & James Tupper as our co-hosts for the event. This fun-filled evening will include a live and silent auction, a celebrity Texas Hold-em tournament, craps and black jack tables, a gourmet dinner by Wolfgang Puck Catering and much more.
Every penny raised goes directly to the Center for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at UCLA, which is scheduled to open later this year. Last year’s event with 400 attendees raised $200,000 for the Center; we’re hoping to exceed that amount in June. Moreover, because of UCLA’s leading role in the development of new biomedical knowledge, the Center is able to match donor funds with support from the campus and national funding agencies, including the National Institutes of Health. That’s why we are asking you to join us today by becoming a corporate sponsor of this important event. Your generous sponsorship will help to create a world-class institution for our city and, most importantly, for our boys. There has never been a more critical time to get involved.
While there is no cure for Duchenne, there is hope. Science is moving forward and researchers are getting closer to making a breakthrough that could save our boys. The Center for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at UCLA will be on the front lines in this race to give our boys a better life today and a chance for life tomorrow!
With our sincere thanks for your consideration and support,
Amy & Chris Martin, CureDuchenne Parents
Anne Heche & James Tupper, Co-Hosts of Dealing for Duchenne
